I Fixed a Commenting Issue
April 5, 2008 – 1:40 pmAlong with the many tweaks that I can’t prevent myself from doing every day to my blog (I’m hoping this tapers off after a while, actually), I realized that I had turned off allowing people to comment unless they were logged in to the site. For some reason, when I first read this option in the WordPress general configuration tab, I thought if I left it un-checked then anyone could comment without any sort of verification at all.
As it turns out, WordPress does ask for a name, an email address and (optionally) a web site URL to go along with the comment. And of course, comment moderation still works as well. In retrospect this is all absolutely obvious. In any case, it has been fixed now and people can comment as they would on other WordPress blogs. Hopefully, this will encourage more discussion on the topics I blog about. I welcome discussion. Really.
In fact, discussions may count more than stats, in the long run.
